Abstract
1,225,879. Disc brakes. DR.-ING. h.c.F. PORSCHE K.G. 24 Oct., 1969 [9 Nov., 1968], No. 52206/69. Headings F2E and F2F. A servo-brake mechanism for disc brake units, especially for dual cycle disc brake units of automobiles, comprising means 5 adapted to be actuated by the vehicle operator for operation of the disc brake units, a brake master cylinder 1 having a master piston 7 and at least one pressure piston 11 displaceably associated therewith, said master piston being connected with said actuation means, at least one brake caliper 3 associated with at least one brake disc 4, brake lining brackets 34, 34<SP>1</SP> associated with said brake caliper, first conduit means connecting said brake master cylinder and said brake caliper, whereby upon actuating said actuation means, said brake lining brackets are brought into engagement with said brake disc with the resulting braking moment being utilized for amplifying the braking power, and means for amplifying the braking power of said pressure piston independently of said first conduit means, said amplifying means being associated with said brake caliper and said brake lining brackets being held in the direction of rotation of said brake disc with a degree of play and being operatively associated with said amplifying means. As shown, actuation of brake pedal 5 displaces piston 7 and pressure pistons 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, whereby fluid pressure in chambers 13, 13<SP>1</SP> is conveyed to wheel cylinders 2 via dual conduits 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and so that brake linings 33, 33<SP>1</SP> engage the brake discs 4, the lining brackets being provided with slots 35 so as to be displaceable on a U-shaped clip 37 carried by the brake caliper 3. The pads, during braking, are moved toward servo-pistons 26, 26<SP>1</SP> and against the loading of springs 27, 27<SP>1</SP> whereby pressure fluid is displaced from the cylinders 20, 20<SP>1</SP> through conduit 19 and to pressure chamber 18 of the master cylinder; the area of the piston 11 is greater than that of the piston 7 so that the pressure increase is conveyed to the driver actuating the pedal 5. In emergency braking, when the amplifying power of the pistons 26, 26<SP>1</SP> becomes too high, the volume of the chamber 18 is increased by the volume of an equalization chamber 23 through overloading of a valve 24. The chamber 18 is connected via a valve 21 to a pressure fluid storage tank 17 which is also connected to the chambers 13, 13<SP>1</SP>.
