Abstract

A toy layout can be formed by assembling a track section, 3, with other similar track sections for guiding a toy, 1, said track section having along one side a running face, 6, engagable by a support wheel or other element of a toy, and having along its opposite side, a guide face, 9, or guide faces engagable by a guide wheel or element of a toy so as to hold the toy on the track section during movement of said toy along the track section. The track section, 3, has a body which may be twisted so that, when the track section is assembled to form a toy layout, the running faces of the track sections will be disposed to define a path representing the spatial movement of the toy. The track section, 3, is rectangular in section and is provided with an electric current conductor, 43, see Figs. 1 and 3-26 (not shown) the rest of the track being of insulating material. The ends of the current conductors are adapted so as to enable contact to be made when two track sections are joined together. The track is supported by posts, 7, which may be step wisely variable in height, Figs. 12 to 15 (not shown) or infinitely variable in height (Figs. 13, 14). The posts are supported on a base plates 8, joined together by the fixing of a bayonet, 82, into recesses formed by the abutment of adjacent base plates (see Fig. 16) and the post may fit into the bayonet fixings. Also provided are base plate elements adapted to be pushed one within another and locked in position, Fig. 18a, b (not shown) in order to vary the distances between posts, 7. The retaining web, 48, holds the track sections 3, together by clamping the abutments, 50, provided at each end of the track sections, in such a way as to leave free access for the guide wheels of the toy. The toy, Figure 6 (not shown) is fitted with a drive mechanism with its own driven support wheel (36) and guide wheels (16). The current pick-ups may be provided on the retaining arms of the guide wheels or preferably on the rear support wheel bogie (20), the latter being pivoted about an axis, parallel to the direction of travel, to facilitate easier guiding. The guide wheel retaining arms (20 and 15) rest against the lateral side of the track section to facilitate guidance, and are spring loaded in such a way as to hold the vehicle securely to the track, while providing a means for its manual removal from the track. The current pick-ups are secured to the bogie (20) by a common retaining bracket. Further, the guide wheels may be adapted to act as current pickups.
