Abstract
1,224,455. High wet modulus viscose rayon. NITTO BOSEKI CO. Ltd. 15 May, 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 24907/69. Heading B5B. Production of a high wet modulus crimpable viscose rayon comprises spinning a viscose solution which has a salt point of up to 7 and a γ-value of up to 57 which has been xanthated by 29 to 35% w./w. based on cellulose of carbon disulphide and which contains at least 0À1% and preferably less than 10% w./w. based on cellulose of at least one aliphatic or alicyclic C 1 to C 6 monoamine or the equivalent percentage of the alkylene oxide derivative of such amines containing preferably 3 moles of ethylene oxide, one or more zinc compounds such that there is at least 0À1% and preferably less than 10% w./w. of zinc based on the cellulose, said zinc compounds being at least 0À05% soluble in water or in aqueous sodium hydroxide, and preferably at least 0À1% and not more than 10% w./w. based on the cellulose of a polyethylene glycol of preferred mean M.W. of 800-1700. The zinc compounds incorporated into the viscose solution may be selected from sodium zincate, zinc acetate, zinc sulphate, zinc oxalate and zinc orthophosphate. The viscose rayon is spun into a sulphuric acid/sulphate coagulating solution containing a trace to 0À8% w./w. anhydrous zinc sulphate.
