1,224,319. Wrapping wire on terminals. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 3 July, 1968 [3 July, 1967], No. 30499/67. Heading B3E. A device for making a wrapped connection on an electrical terminal comprises a spindle 1 having at one end 2 an axial hole 3 for receiving a terminal, a longitudinal wire receiving groove 6 in its surface, a circumferential groove 8 intermediate the ends of the spindle and intersecting the longitudinal groove, a sleeve 9 provided with a transverse slot 11 in the same plane as the circumferential groove, a cotter blade 12 slidingly supported in the slot and means for actuating the cutter blade to sever a wrapping wire lying in the longitudinal groove. The end 2 of the spindle is provided with a helical surface 5 to guide the wire as it is fed along the groove 6. A collar 13 surrounds the sleeve adjacent the circumferential groove 8. Recesses 15 in the collar accommodate the cutter blade 12 (Fig. 2) and rotation of the collar with respect to the sleeve 10 will slide the cutter from one recess to the other. The central portion of the cutter blade is so formed that when the blade is in one recess no part of it projects within the bore of the sleeve 9 and when it is in the other recess a cutting edge 16 projects into the circumferential groove 8 in the spindle. The sleeve 9 and collar 13 are normally stationary during the wire wrapping operation and when it is desired to cut the wire the collar is rotated with respect to the sleeve and the spindle. The end 2 of the spindle may be provided with a cutting edge for slitting any covering on the wire as it is wrapped around the terminal.
