Abstract
1,224,311. Vortex amplifiers. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. April 25, 1968 [Jan.26, 1967], No.3938/67. Heading G3H. The degree of swirl in an output nozzle 11 is determined by the pressure difference at opposed tangential inlets 18, 19 connected to concentric feed conduits 15, 16. A recovery nozzle 13 receives a proportion of the output from nozzle 11 which varies with the jet divergence induced by the vortex in chamber 17. In various modifications Figs. 3-5 (not shown) an additional axial-flow channel is provided in nozzle 11, the outlet of this nozzle can have a stepped configuration, and both nozzles may be of identical construction so that fluid can flow alternatively from nozzle 13 to nozzle 11.
