Abstract

1,223,698. Synthetic zeolites. ENTREPRISE MINIERE ET CHIMIQUE. 29 Feb., 1968 [1 March, 1967], No. 9902/68. Heading C1A. Synthetic zeolites of the formula where x is less than 6 are prepared from an aqueous solution containing the constituent oxides, the constituents being in the following molar ratios: SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 : 5-15 Na 2 O/Al 2 O 3 : 7À5-17À8 SiO 2 /H 2 O: 0À0152-0À0734 Na 2 O/H 2 O : 0À038-0À070. The molar ratios are additionally restricted by the values set out in Tables I and II in the Specification. The process comprises preparing solutions, one containing SiO 2 and the other Al 2 O 3 , intimately mixing and heating these solutions to a temperature in the range 85‹ to 104‹ C., preferably 92‹ to 100‹ C., and crystallising out the product. Optionally the Na zeolites may be converted into a zeolite of the formula where M is another alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, n is its valency and x is less than six, by ion exchange. The X-ray diffraction spectra of the Na zeolite is similar to that of a " Type A " Na zeolite though the d hkl values and a 0 parameters are smaller. Specific zeolites prepared in the examples were: (1) Na 2 O : Al 2 O 3 : 2.35 SiO 2 : 5.05 H 2 O. (2) Na 2 O : Al 2 O 3 : 2.45 SiO 2 after dehydration. (3) Na 2 O : Al 2 O 3 : 2.55 SiO 2 " " (4) Calcium zeolite from (1) by ion exchange.
