Abstract

The nuclear reactor prestressed concrete pressure vessel 1 is provided with a cover formed of concrete blocks 6, and obturator 8 of concrete slots 30, 32. Prestressing is effected by the cables 10, 29 and 38. The slab 30 is supported on 1 and the shoulder 31 and thermal insulation, 36, covers the sealing skin 34. To open the cover, the prestressing cables are slackened, jacks placed in recesses 46 separate the peripheral blocks 6, breaking the mortar joints, 12, and the jacks 44, in recess 43, raise the upper slab 32, breaking the mortar joint 41. Slabs 30, 32 may then be lifted. In a modification, the obturator is formed of four superimposed slabs.
