Abstract

1,223,518. Adjustable headbands. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. 30 Sept., 1969 [8 Oct., 1968], No. 47980/69. Heading A3V. An adjustable head band for helmets comprises a plastics band 1 having an end portion 2 formed with longitudinally spaced transverse slots 7 and which, in use, is located in a slide 9 at the other end of the band and guided by having a lug 13 engaging a slot 11, there being on the inner surface of the slide teeth 15 which engage slots 7 to prevent the band being expanded until the slide is bowed by applying pressure, in the direction of the arrows in Fig. 4, which disengages the teeth from the slots and allows the ends of the band to move apart. The teeth 15 are shaped such that the band can be made smaller without bowing the slide. A forehead cushion and sweat strip 5 is provided together with slots 4 for locating the head band of a helmet. The ends of the band may extend downwardly as illustrated or be in the same plane as the major portion thereof.
