Abstract
1,222,874. Propylene oxide. ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO. 29 May, 1968 [22 June, 1967], No. 25840/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B1] Propylene is epoxidized by contact with tertiary butyl hydroperoxide in the presence of a catalyst which at least in part results from heating a bottoms fraction from a Mo catalysed olefin epoxidation process which contains organic hydroperoxides and high molecular weight polyhydric compounds, with metallic molybdenum to form a solution. Typical reaction conditions are 265‹ F., 650 p.s.i.g., reaction time of 1 hour, propylene concentration of 45 weight per cent and 90 ppm. of catalyst. Examples are given.
