Abstract

1,222,703. Carbamic acid derivatives. HOWARDS OF ILFORD Ltd. 21 July, 1969 [20 May, 1968], No. 23984/68. Heading C2C. The invention relates to a method of making carbamic acid derivatives of either of the formulµ RNHCOONH 3 R or R(R 1 )NCOONH 2 - (R 1 )R, in which R and R 1 denote the same or different organic radicals which do not react with carbon dioxide. According to the invention, the compounds are made by atomizing a liquid primary or secondary amine to form liquid particles of diameter between 5 and 500 microns, and treating the atomized amine with gaseous carbon dioxide at a temperature below the boiling point of the amine under the prevailing pressure and sufficiently low to ensure the production of the carbamic acid derivative in the solid state. The examples describe the production of a compound of the formula from cyclohexylamine and carbon dioxide at 55-75‹ C. Specified other amines to which the process may be applied are ethylamine, dimethylamine, dibutylamine, benzylamine and α- or #-phenylethylamine. Apparatus is described. The products are useful as corrosionpreventing agents for ferrous metals.
