Abstract

1,222,607. Distillation columns; control of reflux. CARL-ZEISS-STIFTUNG ,[trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN.] 5 June, 1968 [7 June, 1967], No. 26838/68. Heading B1B. The overhead condensate of a distillation column 10 is guided by a fixed funnel 3 and a tray 1 so that it flows into funnel 4 which is connected to a lever arm 5 passing out of the column through diaphragm 8, the free end of the lever arm being attached to a device 6 supported on pivot 7. Device 6 is acted on by a lifting electromagnet whereby lever arm 5 is moved, and causes funnel 4 to swivel between a position for total discharge of condensate through pipe 12 to a position for total reflux of condensate down the column. A time switch may be associated with the electromagnet. (For Figure see next page)
