[Also in Division B8] A handling apparatus for cast ingots includes a roller base 5 reciprocable by means of an arm 73 attached to a piston-rod 72, a stop member 55 for preventing rearward movement of ingots A on rearward movement of the roller base 5, and a turntable 6 which is movable in a vertical direction by means of chains 83 and isrotatable through 90 degrees by means 62. A given number of ingots are received from a conveyer 4 (Fig. 1) on to a roller base 3 which then pivots about the point 31 until it is horizontal. They are thus transferred to the reciprocal roller base 5 which is moved first to the right in Fig. 2 and then to the left by means of the arm 73 so that a batch of ingots already on the roller base 5 is moved on to the turntable 6 (Fig. 4F). This is then lowered a distance equal to the height of the ingots and rotated through 90 degrees ready to receive the next batch. When the turntable 6 reaches its lowermost position, the ingots are pushed off the turntable by means of a cylinder 107. Control of the sequence of operations is by limit switches b-i, m and n and movement of the turntable 6 is controlled by means of a light projector k and detector l. The presence of ingots on the turntable interrupts the beam of light and causes the turntable to be lowered until the ingots move out of the beam. In Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the ingots are transferred from the roller base 3 to the reciproeating roller base 5 by means of a table (120) which may be rotated through 90 degrees and may be elevated and lowered.
