Abstract

1,221,504. Field glasses. CARL ZEISSSTIFTUNG [trading as CARL ZEISS] April 28, 1969 [May 6, 1968], No.21536/69. Heading G2J. Binocular field glasses comprise a doublejointed bridge 5 having two joint bearings 10, 11 dividing the bridge into two halves 3, 4. Each half 3, 4 of the bridge has a flat face in which are a pair of parallel straight grooves of semicircular cross-section one groove extending longitudinally adjacent the edge of each face. The grooves of one face, 3, are in matching relationship to the grooves of the other face and enclose the hinge pins 10, 11, the flat faces being spaced from each other when the pins are in the grooves. The bridge halves 3, 4 frictionally engage the pins 10, 11 and are urged to do this by a screw 12, or alternatively by a screw and bolt arrangement. The screw fits in aligned countersunk holes of which that in half 4 is threaded whereas that in half 3 has a counter-bore to receive the screw head. The field glasses may be folded in the form of a Z Fig.4 (not shown) to give an optionally flat form of the collapsed field glasses.
