Abstract

1,221,369. Trackways for air cushion vehicles; air cushion vehicles. SOC. DE L' "AEROTRAIN". 6 Sept., 1968 [12 Dec., 1967] No. 42546/68. Headings B7K and B7L. A track for supporting a vehicle A by means of fluid cushions bounded by skirts C comprises an inverted T-section track portion 1 straddled by the vehicle which is formed in its regions where contact with the skirt edges may occur with yielding surfaces 2, said surfaces consisting of sheet steel having a low coefficient of friction with the skirts and hinged about one longitudinal edge by member 5, there extending between the track and the surfaces yieldable distance pieces 3 set between angle-sections 4 which also act as stops. The horizontal surfaces 2 are flush with the upper face of track portion 1a and the vertical surfaces 2 secured to baseplates 20, formed with rigid projections 21. The yielding surfaces 2 may be used with other tracks of inverted U-section and channel section. In a modification, Fig. 4, the surfaces 2a are hinged at 7 to supports 8. The supports are each formed with a pair of upright longitudinally spaced plates 8b between which a downwardly projecting plate 9a from the surface extends. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the surfaces 2b are mounted at one edge on supports. 19 and at the other edge on flexible members 13. Pockets 11, joined at 12, provide resistance to the flexing of the surface.
