Abstract
1,220,428. Culture bottle assembly. BECTON DICKINSON & CO. Oct.9, 1969 [Dec.11, 1968], No.49622/69. Heading C6F. [Also in Division B8] A transparent glass or plastics culture bottle e. g. for the testing of blood samples, has a substrate tray 20, Figs.5 and 6, comprised of one or more compartments 44 for the reception of agar nutrient compositions. The tray, which may be made from moulded plastics, glass or other ceramic material, is retained in position by a cylindrical body 22, 24, Fig. 2, push-fitted against the neck 18 of the bottle, and by a retaining bracket 42, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) mounted along the inside surface of the bottom wall of the bottle. The neck is sealed by a rubber stopper 34 capable of being pierced by a needle, and a plastics screw cap 36. An aperture 26 enables liquid broth and, in use, blood to be introduced into the interior of the bottle with the tray in position. The bottle may be evacuated to facilitate the transfer of blood from the needle. Additionally, it may for particular tests contain small amounts of nitrogen or oxygen. The bottle may be made of a rectangular shape to facilitate supporting the tray in a horizontal position above the liquid contents.
