Abstract
1,219,737. Image converter tubes. ZENITH RADIO CORP. 9 July, 1969 [30 Aug., 1968], No. 34565/69. Heading H1D. An image converter, e.g. an X-ray converter for nuclear medical examination, has a focus electrode comprising a conductive layer 14 formed on the internal surface of the cylindrical envelope portion 10b between the electronimage source 12 and the image screen 13 and also including a part spaced from the envelope wall extending axially towards the anode from the conductive layer 14 and supported by an inwardly directed annular envelope extension 20. The arrangement increases the effective separation of the focus electrode conductive layer 14 and a conductive band 16d on the internal surface of the envelope portion 10d and which forms part of the anode structure. As shown, focus electrode coating 14, e.g. of Cu or Al, is connected via conductive coating 20a to a conductive ring 21 which surrounds the conical section 16a of the anode. To avoid disturbances of the focusing field projection 20 is formed close to the envelope wall and specific envelope dimensions of an example are given. To reduce the effects of electron impingement on the shoulder portion 10e of the envelope a high resistivity coating 25, e.g. an evaporative film of calcium fluoride, may be provided. Alternatively a conical electron shield, Fig. 3 (not shown), secured to ring 21 or a unitary ring and frusto-conical electron shield, Fig. 4 (not shown), attached directly to projection 20, may protect the envelope section 10e.
