Abstract

1,219,283. Strings of cable identification sleeves and apparatus for cutting same. CRITCHLEY BROS. Ltd. 18 Jan., 1968 [26 Jan., 1967], No. 3998/67. Heading B8F. A string 2 of partially separated cable identification sleeves 3 is particularly adapted to be cut into convenient lengths 2a using the apparatus of Fig. 1, by arranging that the angle subtended by the arc formed in the partially severed edge 5 of the tube 2 is at least 210 degrees. The string 2 is led in a curved path over a grooved wheel 9 thus causing the individual sleeves 3 to open out leaving V-notches of appreciable size between them at the cuts 5. The notches are counted by a photo-electro detector, 10, 11 controlling a cutter 15, cutting the string into lengths. The tube 2 may be of extruded plastics and may feature a second cut opposite the cut 5 with the result that the cable sleeves are attached to one another only by small bridges of plastics material. Details of the dimensions of the cuts and the bridges formed are given in the Specification.
