Abstract

1,219,212. Disazo dyestuffs. CIBA Ltd. 5 Feb., 1969 [6 Feb., 1968], No. 6166/69. Heading C4P. The invention comprises water-insoluble disazo dyestuffs of the general formula wherein R 1 is an aryl residue containing at least one sulphonic acid ester group, R 2 is a naphthalene residue having the azo, -OH and - CONH- groups in the 1-, 2- and 3-positions respectively, and R 3 is an arylene radical. Preferred dyestuffs have the general formula wherein R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl or a heterocyclic residue, X is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or phenoxy, Z is H, halogen, or alkoxy and R 3 is an arylene residue, e.g. 1,4-phenylene optionally substituted by halogen, trifluoromethyl, alkyl or alkoxy. They are prepared by (a) condensing a carboxylic acid halide of the formula having the azo, -OH and -CONH- groups in the 1-, 2- and 3-positions respectively with an arylene diamine in the molar ratio of 2:1 or (b) coupling a diazo or diazoamino compound of an arylamine with a 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid arylide of the formula in the molar ratio of 2:1. The red, scarlet and ruby water-insoluble dyestuffs obtained are used to colour viscose, cellulose ethers and esters, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters, nitrocellulose, natural and synthetic resins, polyolefins, P.V.C., polyacrylonitrile rubber, casein, silicones and silicone resins, pencils, cosmetics and laminates.
