Abstract
1,219,191. Shearing. SCHLOEMANN A.G. 9 Jan., 1968 [25 Jan., 1967], No. 1222/68. Heading B3W. Rotary shear for cropping rolled stock, e.g. wire, moving at high speed comprises two rings 14 mounted side by side on respective driving shafts 3, 4 revolving at the same speed and having circular cutting edges facing one another and converging at an acute angle until the edges are at the distance required for shearing the wire. Preceding the shear is a switching member 15 rockable by e.g. piston and cylinder means 18 between one end position, Fig. 2, in which it directs the end of the wire (not shown) into the free space between the cutting rings 14, and the other end position, when it is directed tangentially to the periphery of the rings. As the switching member is rocked upwardly it lifts the wire into engagement with the cutting edges and the wire is completely sheared at top dead centre position (20), Fig. 3 (not shown). The crop end is guided by a plate 21 to a scrap container and the new wire end is impelled on the periphery of one of the rings into an outlet guide 22. In a shear for single-line operation, Fig. 4 (not shown), the housings 1, 2 carrying the cutting rings are displaceable relative to each other on base plates (23) rockable about a common pivot (24) and each supported on hinge-rods (25), (26). A piston (29) of adjustable length acts on the pivot point (28) between the rods (25), (26). To vary the acute angle between the cutting rings without varying the distance between the cutting edges at the narrowest point of the cutting range the piston rods are shortened, the housings are displaced on the base-plates and fixed by screws (32). For cropping the front and rear end of wire to be wound on a reel two shears are provided in series, the front shear preferably having upwardly converging cutting rings and the rear shear downwardly converging rings, the cutting range of the rear shear being so far below that of the front shear that, after the front crop, the wire is guided in a straight line through the cutting rings of the rear shear.
