Abstract

1,218,820. Benzal 2-imidazolin-2-yl-hydrazones. SANDOZ Ltd. 6 Sept., 1968 [11 Sept., 1967; 13 Nov., 1967; 11 July, 1968], No. 42404/68. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula wherein R 1 and R 3 , which may be the same or different, each represents H, Cl, F, CH 3 , CH 3 O or CF 3 , and R 2 represents H, Cl, F, CH 3 or CH 3 O, provided (1) that at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is other than H, and (2) that two CF 3 groups are not on adjacent carbon atoms, are obtained by reacting an aldehyde of formula with a 2-hydrazino-2-imidazoline of formula preferably in an inert solvent at a temperature from 25‹ C. to the reflux temperature. The hydrazino-imidazoline may be used in the form of an acid addition salt, e.g. HI salt. Pharmaceutical compositions having hypotensive activity comprise a compound of Formula I, or an acid addition salt thereof, in association with a pharmaceutical carrier, in forms suitable for oral, enteral or parenteral administration.
