Abstract

1,218,691. Thermoplastic polyester moulding compositions containing polyamides. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 24 April, 1969 [24 April, 1968], No. 21045/69. Heading C3R. A shaped article is made by injection moulding of a thermoplastic moulding composition prepared by mixing in the molten state (a) a linear saturated polyester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and, optionally, a small quantity of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, with a saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol, the polyester having a reduced specific viscosity (measured in a 1% solution in a 60: 40 mixture of phenol and tetrachloroethane at 25‹ C.) of 0À6 to 2À0 dl/g, and (b) 0À5 to 50% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of a linear saturated polyamide having a reduced specific viscosity (measured as above) of 0À6 to 6 dl/g. The polyester is preferably polyethylene terephthalate or polycyclohexane-1,4-dimethylol terephthalate, and the polyamide is preferably polycaprolactam, polyhexamethylene adipamide, poly-α,#-undecamide or poly-α,#-dodecamide. Mixtures of different polyesters and polyamides may also be used. The composition may also contain inorganic nucleating agents and pigments, and may be coated with a wax (e.g. polythene wax).
