Abstract

1,218,531. Cathode-ray display tubes. D. G. GUMPERTZ. 2 Jan., 1969 [2 Jan., 1968], No. 270/69. Addition to 1,159,457. Heading H1D. [Also in Division G4] A display device as in the parent Specification, includes electrostatic deflection plates 15, 17 or electromagnetic deflection coils, preferably in balanced pairs, such that energization of same effects the display of a character of beam-shaping mask 29 at a point on the fluorescent screen 25 removed from the common point of convergence of the electron gun axes. Synchronism of the energization of the respective electron sources with the deflection input by sweep circuitry (Division 4) as in Fig. 4 (not shown) for example may produce, due to the persistence of vision, an effectively simultaneous display of different characters on the screen. One or more screens 33 restrict the cross-sectional areas of the beams. Deflection means may be on both sides of the screen to produce deflection vertically and horizontally on a single line display in a fan-shaped tube may be produced for digital voltmeters and calculators for example. References are made to analytical and digital measuring instrumentation, computers, counters and display panels.
