Abstract
1,217,551. Forging. NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY PROEKTNOKONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT TEKHNOLOGII MASCHINOSTROENIA. 17 Jan., 1968, No. 2494/68. Heading B3H. In a machine for forging a blank 19 between relatively axially movable die halves 2, 3, one of these has a gyratory motion without rotation about its axis to provide in the blank a continuously rotating deformation zone. This is stated to reduce the required forging pressure. Lower die half 2 is fixed and upper half 3 is carried by an oscillatable arm 7 mounted in a die slide 6 reciprocated by lead screws or alternatively by a crank or by hydraulic pressure. Arm 7 has a spherical bearing surface 9 for transmitting the forging pressure whilst permitting the arm 7 to oscillate. Additionally, connecting rods (16), Fig. 3 (not shown), may be used. The upper end of arm 7 is mounted eccentrically in a worm-wheel (13), Fig. 2 (not shown), which is rotated by a pair of worms (11), (12) for oscillating the arm. Rotation of the latter about its axis is prevented by an arm (17). The forging may be performed hot or cold.
