Abstract

1,217,321. Yarn package. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Dec., 1967 [17 Jan., 1967], No. 2476/67. Heading B8M. [Also in Divisions D1-D2] A yarn package having no ridges due to wind ratio patterning greater than 4 thousandths of an inch in height when measured by a 3/32 inch diameter probe of a "Talysurf" (Trade Mark) recording instrument with less than 10 gms. pressure on the stylus, is produced by winding the yarn on a ring and traveller with ring tilt of which the wave amplitude is greater than the traverse increment per revolution of the point of lay, according to one or more values of constant wind ratio calculated to avoid regions of patterning in the package and maintaining the wind ratio " programme " at least during a part of the winding. The wind ratio is preferably not a ratio of whole numbers either of which is less than 5; the wind ratio preferably lies between 1À0 and 2À0. Wind ratio is the number of revolution of the point of lay of the yarn around the package for each revolution of the traveller around the tilted ring. The wind ratio may be kept constant by varying the spindle speed and/or the delivery speed. The speed which is varied may be varied in accordance with a " programme " creating means, e.g. a cam or analogue computer. The speed of the traveller may be monitored photoelectrically or magnetically and a resulting signal fed to a circuit in which the measured speed is compared with the desired speed and a corrective action, e.g. of the spindle speed, made.
