1,216,909. Load handling pallets; cartons. UNILEVER Ltd. 17 March, 1969 [9 April, 1968], No. 17070/68. Headings B8H and B8P. A box pallet of solid or corregated fibreboard comprises side walls 1-4 and a base 5 formed of overlying flaps, a platform 12 spaced from the base 5 by a plurality of supporting elements 6, 6a providing passageways 13 for the forks of a fork lift truck and apertures 14 in the opposed side walls 2, 4 in alignment with said passageways. The supporting elements comprise fibreboard sheet material folded along parallel lines to form a pair of rectangular cross-section hollow tubes with double side walls 7, 8, a double intermediate wall 9, a double base wall 10 and an upper wall 11. In those supporting elements not required to receive the forks of a fork lift truck the internal edge of the sheet may be folded to form a diagonal (19), Fig. 4 (not shown). In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the supporting element comprises a number of dividers (20), (21) slotted together at their intersections. The passageways for the forks are defined between adjacent parallel dividers (20) or (21) and the dividers extending transverse of said passageways are adapted to be broken down by the entry of the forks. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), a combination of tubes (35), (35a) and dividers (36) are used with the passageways (13) formed in the tubes. In a still further embodiment, Fig. 7, 8 (not shown), the supporting elements comprise spaced blocks (37), (38) of wood or plastics material. A liner 18, Fig. 3 (not shown), or a sleeve (15), Fig. 2 (not shown), having flaps (16) to close the box, may be provided to reinforce the box.
