Abstract

1,216,800. Cleaning tubular ducts. R. MICHEL. 9 Dec., 1969 [9 Dec., 1968], No. 60119/69. Heading F2N. A device for cleaning the interior walls of a duct comprises a pair of flanges 1, 2 arranged to form with the interior walls of the duct a chamber B, each flange being provided with a plurality of tubular elements 6, 9 arranged so that when the flange 1 is connected to a source of suction, a vortex is created in the chamber. The flanges 1, 2 are separated axially by stay rods 3 and are fitted with rubber washers 11, 14 to form flexible joints between them and the duct. The washers separate the deposit from the walls of the duct when the device is displaced therein by a cable attached to a hook 22 fitted to a coaxial stay rod 4. The tubes 6, 9 are curved as shown so that when suction is applied via a frusto-conical element 24, the deposits from the wall of the duct entering the chamber via the tubes 9 or through notches which may be provided in washer 14, undergo vortical motion and are directed centrifugally towards the periphery of the chamber thence through the tubes 6 to element 24.
