Abstract

1,216,188. Cigarette package. BRITISHAMERICAN TOBACCO CO. Ltd. 11 July, 1968 [14 April, 1967], No. 17236/67. Heading B8C. A method of manufacturing a cigarette package of the type having an inner foil wrapper 1 completely enclosing its contents, and an outer wrapper 3 enclosing a substantial part of the foil-wrapped contents, comprises applying an inner wrapper blank and then an outer wrapper blank to a mandrel and causing the wrappers to be sealed together by adhesive while on the mandrel. The inner wrapper is of tissue-lined aluminium foil, and the outer wrapper is of paper. The adhesive is either thermoplastic, e.g. polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate, a polyethylene/ vinyl acetate copolumer or polyvinylidene chloride copolymer, or a self-sealing cold-acting adhesive based on rubber latex. The adhesive may be applied to either or both surfaces. The package is formed from blanks cut from continuous strips and applied to the mandrel of a package-forming machine of the type disclosed in U.K. Specification 919,705. Extra adhesive may be applied to the blanks at the package seams.
