Abstract
1,215,461. Jet-lift aircraft. HAWKER SIDDELEY AVIATION Ltd. 14 Feb., 1968 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 8584/67. Heading B7G. A V.T.O.L. or S.T.O.L. aircraft comprises a continuously rated vectored thrust propulsion engine 11 having two laterally-spaced dirigible nozzles 12 at its aft end, and a lift engine 16 mounted (e.g. with its axis vertical) substantially between the two nozzles, so that the thrust lines 15 and 17 of the dirigible nozzles when directed downwardly, and of the lift engine, lie close to one another. The aircraft attitude may be controlled by auxiliary jets 19 (20), Fig. 3 (not shown), at the extremities of the fuselage 10 and wings 21, these jets being fed by either or both the engines 11, 16. The engine 16 has its intake 18 above the wings 21 to avoid ingestion of gases exhausted from the engine 11. The engines 11 and 16 may be mounted in a nacelle which may be attached to the aircraft wing 21.
