Abstract
1,214,780. Magnetic disc recording. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 15 Oct., 1969 [24 Oct., 1968], No. 50565/69. Heading G5R. The recording head flies on a layer of air over the rotating disc and is movable to vary its distance from the axis of the disc, the strength of recording signals fed to the head being varied according to the distance of the head from the axis. This compensates for the variation in the flying height of the head according to the speed of the disc beneath it and hence to its distance from the axis. The reduction of the recording signals is controlled by the address signals which determine the location of the head.
