Abstract

121,455. Soc. d'Eclairage Chauffage et Force Motrice. Dec. 4, 1917, [Convention date]. Carbazole.-Crude carbazole is purified by dissolving it in a phenol (phenol, cresols, xylenols) and crystallizing out. The crystals are washed with a phenol and the process repeated, giving a product of 90 per cent purity. The process may be applied to the crude carbazole contained in the pyridme solutions from the purification of anthracene by pyridine, or to the crude carbazole obtained by decomposing potassium carbazole prouuced in purifying anthracene by caustic potash.
