Abstract

1,214,148. Measuring reflectance photoelectrically. MINING & CHEMICAL PRODUCTS Ltd. Dec. 6, 1968 [Dec. 12, 1967], No. 56459/67. Heading G1A. A device for detecting variations in the surface reflectance of objects comprises a semi-conductor light source and a semi-conductor light receiver disposed on one side of a lens, the receiver being located in such a position in relation to the emitter that light reflected from an object through the lens will strike the receiver. Infrared radiation from a GaAs emitter 6 spaced from the lens 5 by a tube 1 of more than 2 focal lengths is directed on to an object 9. Reflected light from 9 passes back through lens 5 and falls on four parallel photosensitive devices 7 connected to an amplifying transistor 8. A spacer may be inserted between the tube 1 and block 2 to vary the resolving power of the arrangement.
