Abstract

1,213,934. Disc brakes. AISIN SEIKI K.K. 29 Jan., 1969, No. 5073/69. Heading F2E. In a disc brake comprising a rotatable disc 1, two friction pads 13, 17 on opposite sides of the disc and a fixed hydraulic cylinder 9 containing two opposed pistons 11, 12 engaging the pads, one directly, the other through a yoke 15, the cylinder has two guide portions 20, 21 straddling the disc supporting and guiding the pads and receiving the torque exerted on the pads during braking. The yoke, of pressed or punched sheet metal, is supported by surfaces 22, 23 of the cylinder against which it is pressed by springs 33, 34. Cylinder projections 24, 25 carry pins 28, 29 which pass through pad back plates 14, 18 to prevent radial movement and are secured by a spring 30. The surfaces 22, 23 and springs 33, 34 may be deleted. Alternatively the yoke is attached to the cylinder by four elastic straps which return the yoke after brake application. The straps may be semi-elastic to provide automatic wear compensation.
