Abstract
1,213,791. Photographic printers. KODAK Ltd. Nov.23, 1967 [Nov.28, 1966], No.53238/66. Heading G2A. A photographic printer has a plurality of interchangeable negative masks (10) Fig.1, (not shown), each mask bearing at least two pins (12) which indicate the negative size carried thereby, and a mask holder having a bank (14) of micro-switches (13) which sense the combination of pins and step a rotary switch (15) to a particular position to adjust the metering of photo-sensitive material to be exposed in the printer, in accordance with the negative size. The masks and holder can also be arranged to control, via the rotary switch (15), the light level output, compensation for negative size and adjustment of mask for the photo-sensitive material. Light level output. In output (a) from the switch (15) controls the energization of lamps for illuminating the negative, interposes neutral density filters in the light beam, if necessary; and controls the interchanging or adjusting of a condenser system of the printer. Negative size compensation. An output (b) provides for the insertion in a photo-electric exposure control circuit of a combination of one or more preset resistors to provide for termination of exposure after a predetermined time. Photo-sensitive material mask. An output (c) from the switch (15) is connected to one of a plurality of contact studs 25, the stud selected being dependent on the negative size. A reversible motor, 15a drives, through mechanism 16-18, 20,21, masking members 19, 22 which are moved towards or away from each other so as to mask different areas of the photo-sensitive material. The motor 15a also drives, via the gear train 16 and a shaft 23, a split ring 24 which rides on and provides electrical connections with the studs 25. The selected stud and another connected to relays 26, are connected, the relays 26 thus controlling the motor 15a. Metering. An output (d) from the switch (15) is contacted to one of a plurality of reed switches 33. A drive shaft 27, carrying a permanent magnet 30, drives a metering roller 29 until the selected switch 33 is operated by the magnet 30 and a circuit completed to a relay 34 which operates a clutch 28 to disengage the drive shaft 27 from the roller 29, and controls a ratchet and pawl to stop the roller slipping back. In another embodiment Fig. 5 (not shown), the output (d) energizes a particular contact of a uniselector (38) which is stepped by pulses from a reed switch (39) operated by four magnets (45). When the particular contact is reached, a relay (47) and pawl and ratchet mechanism are operated as before to stop the metering roller (46)
