Abstract

1,212,832. Vehicle guidance system. SPERRY RAND Ltd. 24 Jan., 1968 [25 Jan., 1967], No. 3764/67. Heading B7H. The guidance system for pneumatic tyred. vehicles described in Specification 1,211,539, which uses a guide slot 3 and sensing follower 1, is controlled at each junction by a radiated field or beam produced by a device mounted in the trackway in approach to each junction so that a sensor on the vehicle either automatically biases the steering system to follow, a predetermined path or applies a signal to a separate bias unit for the steering system either directly or via a direction switch set for the predetermined path. The sensor may be a soft iron core 8 which is attracted to a trackside permanent magnet 9 to bias the guidance system to the right or the sensor may be a device responsive to radiation from a magnetic, light, radio, radioactive or infra-red source at the junction, the received signal biasing the guidance system via the direction switch. The driver over-rides the control when he wishes to leave the predetermined path.
