Abstract

1,212,473. Papermaking. WILH. SCHAUMAN A.B. OY. 26 Feb., 1969 [1 March, 1968], No. 10309/69. Heading D2A. A method of manufacturing stretchable paper comprises forming a wet web of paper, transferring the web from one moving support to a second slower-moving support, so that the linear speed of the web is reduced and the web thereby shortened, and causing the web to travel between two wires or between two felts, or between a wire and a felt through a press nip or the press nips of one or more pairs of pressure rolls. As shown, paper web 8 is couched at 9 onto slower-moving wire or felt 10, packed up by suction roll la and passed through the nip between rolls la and 2a, these rolls being wrapped by wires or felt 3a and 6a respectively. The web is then carried or wire or felt 3a through press nips between rolls 4a, 5a and 11a and 12a. The rolls 11a, 4a may be wrapped by felt or wire 6a, or may be feltcovered or wire-covered. Wire or felt 10 preferably moves less than 7% slower than the speed of the paper machine wire.
