Abstract
1,212,188. Mowers. ORCHARD EQUIPMENT Ltd. 5 Dec., 1968 [16 Dec., 1967; 7 March, 1968], Nos. 57260/67 and 11209/68. Heading A1F. A mower comprises an arm 60 at an end of a frame or casing 10 swingable at least about a generally vertical axis for mowing round obstacles, the arm 60 being outwardly urged by a spring 80 and inwardly urged by hydraulic means. On striking an obstacle a probe 90 pivots rearwardly at 92 acting on a rod 93. Fluid from a supporting tractor hydraulic circuit is continuously circulated through a valve 94 via an inlet pipe 103 and outlet 104, Fig. 8, and when the rod 93 is depressed, a valve spool 100 is moved axially via a spring 99 to block the fluid flow. Pressure build up in the inlet 103 acts through a branch pipe and single-acting hydraulic cylinder 85 to depress a rod 83 against the spring 80, retracting the arm 60. When the probe 90 is released the rod 93 returns to its original position, the valve 94 re-opening and the spring 80 re-extends the arm 60. The mower may be front or rear mounted on the tractor, and an arm 60 may be provided at both ends of the frame 10. Hydraulic motors may be employed to drive the cutters, and means for achieving alternative configurations of cuttings deposition are disclosed.
