Abstract

1,211,755. Analogue/digital converters. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 4 March, 1968 [20 March, 1967], No. 10281/68. Heading G4H. In an analogue-to-digital converter, an analogue input signal is integrated for a time dependent on the period of a power waveform, the integrator 30 (Fig. 4) being discharged at a rate dependent on the integrating period so that noise caused by e.g. induction from nearby power lines is eliminated. In the embodiment described, control 10 initially opens a gate 20 for a time dependent on the period of the power waveform so that the integrator 30 is charged up, a gate 42 also being enabled for this time interval to pass clock pulses to a counter 46. The accumulated count is then transferred to a calibrate buffer 54 and digital/analogue converter 56, the output from which is fed via reference sampling gate 60 to discharge the integrator 30 at a rate which thus depends on the integration period. When the gate 60 is enabled the gate 42 is again enabled to pass pulses to counter 46 until the integrator 30 is discharged when a detector 44 closes the gate 42. The count in counter 46 is read out to computer 70.
