Abstract

1,211,138. Wells, &c. INSTITUT FRANCAIS LU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 18 Jan., 1968 [19 Jan., 1967], No. 2842/68. Heading E1F. [Also in Division F2] In a connecting unit 15 for the completion equipment of Christmas tree of an underwater producing oil well which includes at least one production tubing 3 opening out at the top of the Christmas tree through at least one head valve 9, and a flow line 7 associated with the tubing, the latter being connected by a curved lateral duct with the flow line, and the unit 15 being disposed between the tubing and valve, the unit comprises a housing 17 in which is located a rotatable element 16, an opening 18 in the bottom wall thereof for the tubing, openings 18a, 20 in the upper and lateral walls of the housing communicating with the valve and flow line respectively, and ducts 21, 24 in the element 16 for connection of the tubing and the .flow line in a first position of the element and connection of the tubing and valve in a second position of the element. As shown, the element 16 rotates about a longitudinal axis parallel to and offset from the axis of the tubing 3 and includes toothed rings 36, 37 which mesh with pinions 34, 35 on a shaft 32a connected through a worm wheel and worm 32, 9a with a hydraulic piston 31 whereby rotation of the drum is synchronously controlled by opening or closing of the valve 9, electrical control may be used. Servicing tools may be passed through the ducts 11 and 24 to the tubing 3 while production of the well is unhindered, fluid produced by the well passing the clearance between the drum 16 and housing 17 to the flow line 7. The drum may, alternatively, be hollow and provided with apertures in the base and wall thereof or in the form of a cylindrical sector.
