Abstract

1,210,973. Water jet propulsion; air cushion vehicles. HOVERMARINE Ltd. 7 March, 1969 [5 March, 1968], No. 10666/68. Headings B7K and B7V. A rigid wall 11 forming a side wall of a sidewall gas.cushion vehicle or a keel of a peripherally skirted gas-cushion vehicle, Fig. 6 (not shown), or a catamaran, is formed with a duct 13 containing an impeller for water jet propulsion, the wall being divided longitudinally in a vertical plane 15, as shown, or a horizontal plane, and part of the duct being formed in each wall part 11a, 11b. The wall parts are detachably secured together to provide access to the duct interior, the impeller and its drive shaft, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). A duct 12 supplying air from fan 6 to rear skirt 5 is also formed in the two parts of the wall. The wall parts may be moulded in fibre-reinforced plastics and bolted together. Duct 13 may be lined with stainless steel or coated with neoprene. In the peripheral skirt embodiment, a central keel or two spaced keels may be provided.
