Abstract

A paper trimmer comprises a disc cutter in a housing slidable along one or more rails, the housing being mounted to avoid pivotal movement, to prevent exposure of the disc to cut the user's hand and the disc being rotatable either by its contact with a cutting rule or by a roller fixed on its axis and engaging the paper or a hold down device for the latter. In one embodiment, the housing 7 slides on rails 5 and the disc is spring biased towards the rule 2<SP>1</SP>. A roller 20 covered with resilient material engages the paper or a transparent hold-down strip 3 to drive the disc. The strip is slotted at 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP> to enable the roller to press down its centre portion to grip the paper. In an alternative arrangement, the housing may run on a single rail and be prevented from pivoting by engagement of the roller and disc with the paper and rule. A paper positioning arm 33 is slidable on a rail 35 and may be locked in position: it may have an articulated portion for various angle settings, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown).
