Abstract

1,210,742. Digital transmission systems. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 Oct., 1968 [7 Oct., 1967], No. 47136/68. Addition to 1,210,445. Heading H4P. In a digital data transmitter having a switching modulator 3 and a digital filter 5 as claimed in the parent Specification, the modulator can be switched to provide amplitude, frequency or phase-shift signals. The transmitter is as shown in the Figure. When switch 50 is on the rest contact 51 only gate 38 is enabled by carrier frequency pulses from 36, and the modulator provides a.m. signals. When the switch is on contact 52 the modulator acts as a modulo-2 adder and gives phase-shift signals. When the switch is on contact 53 a second carrier frequency is applied to gate 37, and the modulator gives frequency shift signals. The frequencies of the signals applied to the gates, to the data source 1, and to the shift register 7, are integral multiples of the frequency of the signal from generator 2.
