Abstract

1,210,505. Shelving. L. MASLOW. 22 Nov., 1967 [30 March, 1967], No. 53186/67. Heading A4B. An adjustable shelving assembly comprises a shelf 10 supported by posts 34 passed through apertures 18 in the shelf 10, each post 34 being engaged by a frusto-conical, split collet 40, 42 which is adjustably positioned along the length of the post 34 and which seats in a corresponding bore 32 in a support member 20 secured to, or integral with, the shelf 10 whereby the collet 40, 42 is clamped on the post 34 due to the wedging effect between the member 20 and collet 40, 42 under the weight of the shelf 10. As shown, the member 20 is fitted beneath a corner of the shelf 10 and has limbs 28, 30 riveted, as 22, 24, to shelf flanges 12, 14. The collet 40, 42 is held on the post 34 by a spring clip ring 48 engaged in collet groove 46 and has an internal rib 44 engaged in a selected groove 36 in the post 34. In another embodiment (Figs. 6, 7) the rib 44 is replaced by a plurality of grooves (50) selectively engaged by a ring (52) acting as a rib. In a further embodiment (Fig. 11), the post (34A) and collet 40A, 42A) are free of ribs and grooves so that the collet is located solely by friction on the post. In a modification (Figs. 9, 10) the shelf (60) is of plastics and has collet receiving bores (62) provided in integral corner parts.
