Abstract
1,210,491. Feeding sheets. MARDON, SON & HALL Ltd. 9 Jan., 1968 [12 Oct., 1966], No. 44415/66. Heading B8R. Sheets are removed from a stack supported on edge and deposited on a substantially horizontal conveyer by grasping means (e.g. suction pads) pivotally attached to pivoted arms, the arms being adapted to swing between a first position in which the grasping means may grasp a leading sheet and a second position in which the grasping means holds the sheet in a substantially horizontal plane for release on to the conveyer. The grasping means are arranged to pivot relative to the arms during movement of the latter such that the sheet is moved in an arcuate path transversely of and away from the stack. The pivotal movement of the grasping means is completed in less than the full swing of the arms. Blanks 11 are individually withdrawn from stack 10 and fed to a conveyer 12 by suction cups 28, 30 pivotally mounted on bar 27 which is in turn supported between pivoting arms 25, 26. As arms 25, 26 reciprocate through an 80-degree angle cam follower 43 rolls on cam surface 44 thus reciprocating rod 41 and through linkage 45 oscillating shaft 27 through. about 60 degrees. Cups 28, 30 therefore pivot from position 28 to position 28b where the vacuum is released, thus transporting a blank first from behind retaining member 15 and then away from and transversely of the stack (and from behind member 16) to be deposited on conveyer 12. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) two pivoted arms (125, 126) each carry a suction cup (128, 130) mounted in a holder (170). Oscillation of these arms through 80 degrees causes the cups to pivot through more than 110 degrees to withdraw the blank as before.
