Abstract

1,209,420. Actuating devices for switches. WOLFGANG ASSMANN G.m.b.H. 13 Aug., 1969 [3 March, 1969], No. 40439/69. Heading H1N. A switching device comprises a start-stop key 21 and a rewind key 22 for controlling a movable switching element 4 of a portable dictating machine 2, a frame 10 adapted to hold machine 2 and a spring-loaded substantially flat lever arrangement 20 mounted on frame 10, lever arrangement 20 responding to operation of at least one of keys 21, 22 to act upon switching element 4 of machine 2 in frame 10. The device is for use by a typist when transcribing from the dictating machine 2. Start-stop key 21 is mounted on advance lever 23 pivoted at 29 about pin 12 on frame 10 and urged by spring 25 against stop 11. Rewind key 22 is mounted on rewind lever 24 pivoted at 29 about pin 12 and urged by spring 32 against stop 30 on advance lever 23. The bottom end of rewind lever 24 carries a projection 31 engaging in slot 5 in switching element 4 which is pivoted at 6. When rewind key 22 is depressed, rewind lever 24 pivots clockwise pivoting switching element 4 clockwise causing machine 2 to rewind, when key 22 is released lever 24 is pulled back to the stop position (shown) by spring 32. When start-stop key 21 is depressed, advance lever 23 pivots anticlockwise, spring 32 causing rewind lever 24 to follow, pivoting switching element 4 anti-clockwise causing machine 2 to advance. At the same time pin 28 on advance lever 23 engages latch 27 so that when key 21 is released lever 23 remains latched in the advance position. If now key 22 is depressed, rewind lever 24 will pivot clockwise moving switching element 4 through the stop position to rewind and when key 22 is released and is pivoted anti-clockwise by spring 32 element 4 pivots anti-clockwise through stop back to advance. When start-stop key 21 is again depressed, pin 28 is released from latch 27 and spring 25 pivots levers 23 and 24 back to the stop position. Switching element 4 carries magnetic tape cartridge 3. In addition to or in place of manual keys 21, 22, levers 23, 24 can be operated by foot switches 35, 37 by Bowden cables 34, 36. If no foot switches 35, 37 are provided, advance lever 23 may be operated by a knee-operated lever 33.
