Abstract

1,209,389. Rail vehicle bogies. GENERAL STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc. 29 Nov., 1968 [16 April, 1968], No. 56764/68. Heading B7L. A rail vehicle bogie comprises a pair of spaced wheeled axles 2, 3 supporting a one-piece cast frame by means of spring 15, the centre transom 9 rotatably receiving the centre bearing 23 of a bolster 21 and there being between the bolster and transom rubbing surfaces 19, 25, wherein the draft forces are transmitted from the bogie to the underframe U by means of links 43 universally connected at their ends to the underframe and to crank levers 49, 50 pivoted at 53 and 54 between depending webs 44, 46 at the bolster ends, the inner ends of levers 49, 50 being connected by a vertical link 55 whereby the bolster is maintained against movement lengthwise of the underframe irrespective of vertical or transverse deflections of springs 35 by which the underframe is supported on the bolster. Motors M suspended between the axles and transom 7 are drivingly connected with the axles and during drive the levers 49, 50 prevent tilting forward of the underframe U. Vertical and horizontal snubbers 39, 41 dampen movement of the bolster, and lateral movement of the underframe is limited by co-acting stops 38, 40. Between springs 35 and the bolster are interlayed metal and rubber pads 31, 29.
