Abstract
1,209,058. Polyurethane foams. ELEKAL. 30 Nov., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 54680/67. Headings C3C and C3R. Flexible and hydrophilic polyurethane foams which are reaction products of at least one polyisocyanate and at least one polyetherpolyo at least 10% by weight of the polyol being a polyether dio of the formula in which x, y and z are integers, y ranging from 13 to 45 and the sum of x and z ranging from 2 to 30 may be prepared by reacting the polyisocyanate and polyetherpolyol in the presence of water, at least one divalent tin salt of a fatty acid and/or at least one tertiary amine as catalyst and at least one silicone-type derivative. In a specific example a mixture of a primary polyether triol, a polyether diol of the above formula wherein x+z = 7 and the polyethylene glycol derived portion has a M.W. of 600, a silicone oil, water, stannous octoate, bis - (2 - dimethylaminoethyl ether), a further silicone and a yellow dyestuff is reacted with a mixture of 80/20 toluene-2,4- and 2,6-diisocyanates to form a hydrophilic foam. The polyether diols of the above formula may be prepared by reacting propylene oxide with polyethylene glycol in the presence of an alkaline catalyst which may be benzyl-trimethylammonium hydroxide, choline or an alkaline hydroxide. Examples are given wherein the sum of x+z is 7, 23, 18, 18, 7, 2 and 4 and the polyethylene glycol derived portion has a M.W. of about 1000, 600, 1000, 1450, 600, 1450 and 2000 respectively.
