Abstract

1,208,860. Screw presses; hydraulic presses. O. GEORG. 6 Dec., 1967, No. 14208/70. Divided out of 1,205,415. Heading B5F. [Also in Division B3] A forming machine is selectably operable as a hammer or press by varying the inertia of two reciprocally movable impact members by at least one inertia mass. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a frame slide 2 and a plunger slide 3 are moved towards each other by a threaded spindle 4 rotated by a selectable speed reversible motor 9. The plunger slide 3 has a lower weight than the frame slide 2 but the thread pitches of the spindle 4 engaging the threads of slide carrying nuts 7 and 8 differ from one another so that the slides 2, 3 may operate with equal work capacity upon the workpiece. The machine is operated as a press by a low spindle rotation speed and connecting an annular mass 10 to a hub of the spindle 4 by an electromagnetically controlled disc clutch 12. When the clutch 12 is disengaged and a higher motor speed is selected the machine functions as a hammer. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, pistons 28, 30 and 29, 31, attached at each side to slides 17, 18, are held in their initial positions in cylinders 26, 27 against the action of pressure medium in cylinders 23, 24 in which are disposed pistons attached to the slides 17, 18. When the pressure is removed from the cylinders 26, 27, the slides 17, 18 move towards each other, threaded spindles 15, 16 connected to the slides rotating as they do so. After the working stroke, the slides 17, 18 are returned to the initial position by the pistons 28, 30 and 29, 31. The inertia of the slides 17, 18 is varied by connecting annular masses 32, 33 to the spindles 15, 16 by fiuidoperated, overload slip clutches.
