Abstract

1,208,142. Rolling. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE A.G. 2 Feb., 1968 [3 Feb., 1967], No.5514/68. Heading B3M. Alternate vertical and horizontal stands 1-4 in a rolling mill which follows a continuous casting plant are each provided with a motor M and gearbox G for driving the rolls. A gearbox output pinion 19, Fig. 2, for each stand drives a roll shaft 17 through an articulated spindle 21, the spindle being carried in blocks 29, 30. The blocks are located in sockets 20, 24 which lie within the pinion 19 and shaft 17, in order to make the drive compact. Respective flanges of the sockets, pinion 19, and shaft 17 are connected together by screws. One or both rolls in a stand may be driven. The rolls 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, are carried in pivoted arms 7, 7<SP>1</SP> which are moved towards and away from each other by an hydraulic cylinder 10 to provide roll gap adjustment.
