Abstract

1,207,466. Tube connectors. WALLACEMURRAY CORP. 17 April, 1969 [21 June, 1968], No. 19729/69. Heading F2G. A connector 10 particularly suitable for interconnecting prefabricated sheet metal tubular structures comprises a sheet of metal or other suitable form sustaining material bent to form a tubular sleeve with end portions 24, 26 of the sheet overlapping circumferentially of the sleeve, means, such as a pin or rivet 28, being provided for pivotally connecting together said overlapping end portions at one point along the length of the sleeve, the overlapping portions being left free for relative sliding movement at at least a first end of the sleeve, means, such as a screw 32, spaced longitudinally from said connecting means being provided for applying a force tending to push said overlapping end portion apart, whereby said sleeve is caused to increase its circumference at said first end where said end portions are left free for relative sliding movement. As shown, the connector has a bead 30 or, alternatively, may have circumferentially spaced dimples. In modifications, (a) the screw and a nut thereon engages outwardly and inwardly extending portions of the portions 24, 26, and (b) the screw engages radially extending tabs integral with the upper edges of the portions 24, 26.
