Abstract

[Also in Division A5] A drying or curing enclosure has a wall comprising one or more doors which act as explosion relief means such that if the pressure inside the enclosure rises above a predetermined pressure due to an explosion the door(s) open(s). As shown, the apparatus comprises a door 11 pivotable about axis 15 and having a flange 22. A U-shaped section or support 27 is pivotally mounted on the door. When the door is closed the flange 22 is clamped between section 27 and a U-shaped section or abutment 21 carried by the frame of the enclosure. Extending through section 27 are interconnected rods 36, the bottom one of which is connected to clevis 46 by shear pin 45. The clevis 46 is connected to handle 47. Latches 35 having hooks 34 are mounted on the rods 36 and are pivotal about pins 37. A plurality of horizontal pins 31 are mounted in section 21. The pins 31 are engaged by hooks 34 when the door is locked by turning handle 47. If the pressure inside the chamber rises due to an explosion, the pressure acting on the door tends to rotate the latches in a clockwise direction which exerts an upward pull on the shear rods 36 which breaks the shear pin 45 and the door flies open.
